Don’t you all just love avocados? Writing this post about the health benefits of avocado got me feeling all kinds of nostalgic. As Health Benefits of Avocadoa little girl, my friends and I would go out and pick avocados from our kind neighbor’s garden. And when we were happy with our pick, we would rush home and blitz them into yummy creamy and decadent avocado smoothies. Yummy!

Health Benefits of Avocado

We all love the idea of superfoods, foods that give us a range of health benefits, simply by eating them. There are a variety of foods out there that you can include in your diet. But one of the most popular superfoods out there has to be the awesome avocado.

But what is so great about the avocado?

The following are some of the best-known health benefits of avocados:

A Pretty Impressive Nutritional Content List

Who knew that the main ingredient of guacamole (and avocado toast) could be so good for you. Avocado is a deliciously nutritious fruit and is packed full of nutrients and minerals. In fact, there are thought to be 20 different vitamins and minerals. Some of the things that you will find in avocados include Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Potassium, Protein and Vitamin E.

Avocados Contain Heart-friendly Fatty Acids

We all know that we should be ensuring that we take care of our hearts. So a food that is rich in fat isn’t likely to be one that you want to have in your diet. While avocado is a high-fat food, with 77% of the calories from fats, the fats that it contains are the good kind. The kind of fats that will help your heart. Oleic acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid which aids in reducing inflammation in the body. It also helps keep your heart happy and healthy too!

Avocados Are Full Of Fiber

Dietary fiber is another important nutrient to have in your diet. Avocados are a great source of dietary fiber. In fact around 100grams of avocado will have 7g of fiber in it, which is 25% of the recommended daily amount that you should be aiming to eat, and a high amount of fiber for a single food to have.

Health Benefits of Avocados – Cholesterol Reducer

Heart disease is one of the most common causes of death throughout the world. And things like cholesterol increase your risk of developing heart disease. Avocado is known to reduce cholesterol when eaten on a regular basis, which means that it can contribute to a lower risk of heart disease developing.

A Helping Hand for Weight Loss

One of the health benefits of avocado is that it can help you lose weight. If you are trying to lose weight or maintain weight, then avocado is the right fruit for you. Not only is it high in fiber, but it is also low in carbs, which can be attributed to weight loss for the majority of people. Studies have also been carried out which have found that those who ate avocado were more satisfied after eating than those who didn’t have it as part of their meal.

If these weren’t enough reasons to eat avocado more often, then I have one final point for you to consider.

Avocados are tasty, they really are. Unlike some foods that are good for us, avocado actually tastes good. It is also incredibly versatile and you can add it to a wide range of dishes to give them a little green kick.

So, why not try out more avocado in your diet, and see if you soon start to feel the benefits?

I eat low carb and some Paleo and use avocado’s whenever I can to give me texture, some good fats, colour and even in my dessert! (I’ve previously made an avo chocolate mousse and it was awesome!). I love the health benefits of avocado’s.
